GARCIA ARRIVES

Brighton & Hove Albion have brought in Oscar Garcia as the replacement for Gus Poyet, who was sacked a few weeks ago. Brighton were without a manager for the last couple of weeks and they have decided to bring in the 40-year-old. Garcia was previously the manager of Maccabi Tel Aviv, and he has quit his role at the club in order to take over at Brighton. He has signed a three-year contract with the Championship club. After his unveiling, he has said that he is extremely delighted to be at a club like Brighton, who have a real opportunity to get back into the Premier league.

Garcia is known for his playing days when he represented Barcelona amongst other clubs. He played for the Catalan club for six years before moving to coach their youth team. He has also headed Maccabi Tel Aviv to the league title last season. It is expected that the 40-year-old will be bringing a few past players in order to help him understand the culture at the club. Former defender Nathan Jones is one of the hot favourites to return to the club. He is expected to join as part of the coaching staff.

Garcia has said that he is extremely happy with the pre-season preparations that have been going on.

“I am delighted to have signed a long-term contract with the club. I am now very much looking forward to the challenge ahead. Brighton are one of the most exciting clubs in Europe and the potential here is very good. The squad is strong and the footballing set-up is excellent. The aim is to continue the good progress that has been made in recent seasons. I am looking forward to an exciting season,” said the 40-year-old to the official site of the club.
