Brighton and Hove Albion were in contention with QPR for a promotion spot but to the Premier league for most of the season, but since the turn of the year, they have struggled to keep up their form. This has consequently resulted in Oscar Garcia’s men slipping down the table. They have been unable to keep a play-off place and have fallen close to the second half of the table. It was yet another disastrous result when Brighton took on Wigan. Despite being the home team, they could not manage to get three points, which would have been crucial in the promotion race.

In fairness, Brighton had a lot of the ball and also created a lot of opportunities throughout the 90 minutes. They had more than 60% possession, while also creating more than 22 shots with this statistic. Yet, they were unable to overcome Wigan in the statistic that matters most – goals. McArthur opened the scoring after just 21 minutes, while McCann’s goal in the 50th minute appeared to have given them all three points. Only a late goal from Ulloa in the 78th minute looked to infuse some threat late on in the encounter, but it was not enough as Wigan held on for yet another win.

“When you have more than 20 chances and you score only one goal and the opposition had only two and they scored only two goals, then you can explain the game with this aspect of football. I don’t know [how many they should have scored].” he told http://www.anfieldroar.com.  “One more than two to win the game to be sure because we fully deserved to win. We had 60-65% of possession, we had more than 20 chances to score. We dominated the whole game. In the first half we played the best game of the season but if you don’t score it is impossible to win,” said Garcia.
