POYET BACKS ROBERTO

The Brighton and Hove Albion manager and the former Chelsea midfielder Gus Poyet is of the opinion that the club made the wrong decision in sacking his former teammate Roberto di Matteo. The club have appointed the former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez as his replacement. Gus Poyet has said that he is extremely unhappy at the way di Matteo has been relieved of his duties, while also saying that this is a wake up call for the other managers. Despite winning the Champions League and the FA Cup last season, Roberto di Matteo has been sacked after just a month of bad results.

It was not long ago that Chelsea were top of the table with a four-point advantage over Manchester United. However, bad results in the month of November led to the manager being sacked. Gus Poyet and Roberto di Matteo both started their managerial careers at around the same time. Now, the former Uruguay midfielder is currently helping Brighton get up the table. They are extremely close to getting into the top six of the table, which will help them compete in the play-offs at the end of the season. The club will be playing against another promotion chasing team in the form of Crystal Palace during the weekend.

There is a six-point advantage between Brighton and Crystal Palace on the table, but in terms of form Brighton are extremely good as they have been undefeated in the last five matches. This has seen them close the gap to the sixth placed Hull City to just one point. Brighton went through a difficult patch in the month of October when they did not win a single match. However, Gus Poyet has been able to turn things around once again, and he expected Roberto di Matteo to be given the same opportunity at Chelsea.
